Picnic in the Saline Park in Rheine

Picnic area Salinenpark Rheine

At the Salinenpark in Rheine, you can enjoy a picnic in beautiful natural surroundings. The park, where salt was originally extracted, is fully accessible and there are plenty of shady spots under the trees. The special thing about the Salinenpark is that you can breathe in the fresh salt air and enjoy the view of the graduation tower. If you listen carefully, you can also hear the monkeys from the nearby Rheine Nature Zoo calling. From spring onwards, you can also see and hear the storks. After or before your picnic, you should definitely visit the neighbouring Bentlage Monastery!

Insider tip: Take advantage of the special picnic spot on the bench on the footbridge by the pond directly in front of the graduation works and take a deep breath (see picture 2, top row, centre).

The dance lime tree in the Salinenpark Rheine

You will find a truly legendary picnic spot under the dance lime tree in the Salinenpark at the Bentlage monastery.
Many myths are attributed to the lime trees, which emphasise their healing properties. But love is also often associated with the lime tree.
But the tree also had a completely different purpose in the past. Due to its dense foliage, the so-called dancing lime tree was used as a protective roof to dance under. Today you can use the protective roof for a shady picnic in the Salinenpark. Great, isn't it?
