The Hohe Ward is a nature reserve in the south of Münster near the Hilturper Lake and a little paradise for riders! On beautiful sandy and forest paths you can let your soul dangle together with your horse and enjoy the wonderful nature! And if you are looking for a bit more action, there are several natural obstacles along the route. The designated circular route is about 10 kilometres long and is a nice change of pace, especially in summer and autumn.
The Hohe Ward is Münster's most attractive and largest contiguous forest and recreation area. The circular route runs for about 10 kilometres through predominantly deciduous and mixed forest and is open all year round. But especially in autumn, when the leaves turn colourful, the area exudes its full charm. In summer, the many trees provide shade on hot days.
The designated route leads along sandy and forest paths. Silky natural obstacles challenge the sporty riders, but can also be ridden around without any problems. And there is also something to see during the route. In the middle of the forest area is the Hohe Ward waterworks, which was built in Art Nouveau style at the beginning of the 20th century. The building is still in operation and is a listed building. This makes it one of the oldest technical structures in Münster that is still in use.
At the forest cemetery in Münster-Hiltrup is the publicly accessible "Zur Hohen Ward" trail riding car park. A bridle path leads from here into the beautiful forest area.
