The district of Riesenbeck in Hörstel is one of the strongholds of driving and equestrian sports. Top athletes regularly meet here for tournaments that are known far beyond the Münsterland region. But Riesenbeck also has a lot to offer when it comes to recreational riding. On the southern slope of the Teutoburg Forest, two circular courses offer the best conditions for riding and driving.
The northern Münsterland shows its most beautiful side on a horseback ride. At the latest in the Surenburg Forest, you will have left everyday life far behind you. In addition to the Surenburg, which is now a hotel, you will also find the famous "Riesenbeck international" riding club. Further south, the landscape opens up and you ride or drive through the Haverforthswiesen nature reserve. The nature is characterised by former heath areas with wet and dry heaths and extensive wet meadow areas. The riding route leads in a loop past fields and avenues to the outskirts of Saerbeck.
Via an additional loop, the trail runs along the Saerbeck Bioenergy Park, a 90-hectare site of the former Saerbeck main munitions depot. Here, wind, sun and biomass now generate enough electricity for 19,000 households.
The routes of the Riesenbeck Riding Route follow the signposted riding routes of the Münsterland Riding Route. However, the tour tip is not signposted again separately. We therefore recommend using the map or the GPS track.
Nestled in the ancient alley forest lies the charming Surenburg Castle. The estate is only a few minutes' walk from the riding route. A detour there is worthwhile!
